Martin Luther King Jr.
Martin Luther King Jr. was born right here, in a tidy Victorian house at 501 Auburn Avenue. He spent his first 12 years in this house, a bright, studious boy sharing a bedroom with his brother, chasing his sisters around the backyard. This entire Sweet Auburn neighborhood defied the odds of the Jim Crow South, becoming one of America's most prosperous Black communities.
